Conversion to Manual in an 86; "...I bought the manual window regulators and handles from JBG. REMOVAL: Drill out the three rivets holding in the power window regulator, detach the cabling, slide the roller out of the window's track, and remove the whole shebang from the door. INSALLATION: Slide the roller of the manual window regulator into the window's track, align the three mounting holes of the manual regulator to the holes in your door (not the same holes as were used w/the power regulator, manual brace arm mounts at an angle), rivet or screw the new manual regulator in place (I used screws, nuts, washers, and blue Loctite I got from Home Depot), mount up you door panel, slide the handle on and screw into place. LMC truck listed two peices that JGB didn't have, so I ordered them. One is a large spring that goes between the door panel and the door frame to stop flapping/vibrations, the other is a plastic washer that keeps the vinyl door panel from sticking to the back of the handle in the summer. I guess they're not must-haves, but I opted to spend the $4 for a set of each. The manual regulator's "brace arm" (the part that bolts to the door itself) mounts at an angle. The top of the brace arm is angled in the general direction of the door handles, with the bottom of the brace in the opposite corner from the door handles (I'll post picks in the tech write-up, basically around a 20* angle). You WILL need to source some manual door panels if you want it to look right. I picked up a set from an 86 F150 and use that for plastic and vinyl spraypaint to do them up in a shiny black. They look gooooood. All in all, it took me about a solid hour per door. Having done it now, I could probably do both doors in one hour now. It really is that much of a non-issue..."

Harness & Connector Location & Removal from Door in 92-96; "...The passenger door harness disconnects inside that kick panel. But the driver door harness is continuous from the door lock motor all the way over to those passenger connectors. Either pull the dash, or disconnect everything inside the driver door, and then feed the harness out of it as you remove the door. I'd just unbolt the hinges & hang them both from a beam across the roof of the truck, leaving the wiring connected. Tape off what you have to...."

Motor Interchange Info, Side & Rear Window in a 79; "...I took my motor out and started comparing it to a bunch of window motors I had laying around (i sell a bunch of them due to the fiber gears busting) and found that Bronco window motors are just like all the other Ford window motors....cars, trucks......they\'re all the same. The only difference is they make a left and a right side motor. I used a 92 model motor from the right side (passenger) door of an F-150. A passenger side window motor from a car should work as well. The one thing I did notice was that the later model motors have a slightly different drive motor on them but I believe it\'s more powerful than the earlier ones. My window goes up twice as fast and has never worked as good as it does now..."

Motor Interchange Info, Side & Rear Window in an 86; "...Pulled out both the motors and compaired them side to side. On one the gears faced the left and the other right, no dice. Stared at it a couple more minutes and realized that the motor for the rear window, when flipped upside down had the bolt pattern needed for it to work. Test fitted it and it cleared the speaker buy around a inch. Bolted it up and connected the wiring and it works a hell of a lot better. Its louder, but dosen't even hesitate when rolling up the window... i checked if you could swap the gearbox from the drivers side window onto the one for the rear window and it wouldn't work. The shaft on the rear motor is larger than the one for the drivers motor..."

Motor Models - the split between models of the '92 (for power window motor purposes) occurs in May. If it was made BEFORE May, the window motor is the same as a '91. Otherwise, the motor is the same as the '92-96.

Motor Torque Pin (also called Bushing) Info & pic (Tailgate, but same for PW); "...fixed it for free some fuel line and a few small cunks of a bolt. Here is a closeup of the bad parts. in the points of the triangle there should be 3 round pins. this help cousion the window from motor shock. I cleaned all the old grease out of the motor and the final drive. my final drive was fine so i was going to reuse it. To rebuild for almost free here is all you need. some fuel line and some steel rod or round spacer (this keeps the fuel line from colapsing completely) i cut the fuel line to the height of the drive gear housing and cut the spacers from round stock i had on the bench. the steel spacers go inside of the rubber fuel line. then the rubber fuel line and steel spacers go in the final drive gear.this was a tight fit but not too tight.

Operation & Diagram; "...The door window circuit is a common (Ford) polarity-reversing circuit with 1 switch for the left motor & 2 switches for the right. The switches share power feed through the ignition switch (key-on only). On Broncos, this feed is also used for the tailgate window motor's dash switch. For the left window, the left (driver's) switch normally holds both motor wires to ground. When operated, it sends one of the wires hot, powering the motor. When operated the other way, the polarity is reversed, reversing the motor's direction. For the right window, the left (driver's) switch normally holds both motor wires to ground, and the right (passenger's) switch normally holds the motor wires to the dash switch wires. When either is operated, it sends one of the wires hot, powering the motor. When operated the other way, the polarity is reversed, reversing the motor's direction. Neither switch is a "master" because neither will work if the other is in the opposite position..."
