351M & 400M Connecting Rod Casting Marks Location, pic & Info; "...The casting ID codes are clearly visible on this rod end cap. Once again, note that the connecting rods in this D7TE engine are the original 400 design from 1971 (D1AE-AA). Many M-block components did not change significantly from the original 400 design. The machined surface in the middle of the connecting rod end is evidence of factory balancing. Sometimes, you can find a casting date code on the other side of the connecting rod end from the casting ID codes..."

Engine oil leaks are sometimes improperly diagnosed as transmission pump seal leaks. "The following areas of possible leakage should also be checked to determine if engine oil leakage is causing the problem. Leakage at the valve cover may allow engine oil to flow over the converter housing or seep down between the converter housing and block causing oil to be present in or at the bottom of the converter housing. Oil plug leaks will allow oil to flow down the rear face of the block to the converter housing. Leakage at the crankshaft seal will work back to the flywheel, and then into the converter housing. Leak Check Test with Black Light
Oil soluble aniline or fluorescent dyes premixed at the rate of 2.5ml (1/2 teaspoon) of dye powder to 0.24L (0.5 pint) of automatic transmission fluid have proven helpful in locating the source of fluid leakage. Such dyes may be used to determine whether an engine fluid or transmission fluid leak is present, or if the fluid in the transmission fluid cooler hose leaks into the engine coolant system. An ultraviolet light must be used to detect the fluorescent dye solution. " from 1996 Bronco with E4OD Automatic Transmission Workshop Manual

GT-40 & GT-40P Marking pics; "...Here's some pictures showing the markings on the GT40 heads. The GT40 heads were used on the 5.0 Cobra Mustangs, and the 95, 96 and early 97 Explorers. I've heard that all 97's had the GT40 heads, I don't know when Ford switched to the P heads. The GT40 heads have GT cast into them in several places, also if you can see the end of the head the GT40 heads have three bars cast into the end, the GT40P heads have four bars cast into the head..."
