80-86 are the same style, then changed in 87 thru 91; "...I haven't found any vendor with a bolt-in or direct-fit custom insert for pre-97 Ford trucks. I think the curve of the 80-86 dash gauge bezel makes it so hard to modify that if you have something done it's worth hanging on to!!! JSM84 ..."

Cluster Interchange in 81 - 86; "...there are no differences in clusters between automatic and Standard transmissions or 4wd and 2wd. The shift indicator is different between transmissions, but it is removable and swappable. Standard transmissions have a blank in the shift indicator spot etc. There are differences between gauges and Warning light clusters, these will not swap.the cluster out of a 1980 will not work in 1981-1986, or vise versa. 1980's cluster has the brake/fasten belt/turn signal indicators transversed, compared to 1981-1986. the breakdown is six different clusters and circut boards between 1980-1986. : 1980 Only, With Gauges, no tach, (can be swapped with "C"); B: 1980 Only, with Warning Lights. (Cannot be substituted); : 1980 only, with gauges and tach. (Can be swapped with "A"). All 1981-1986: D: Gauges only (Can be swapped with "G");E: Warning Lights (Cannot be substituted); G: Gauges with tach, (Can be swapped with "D")..."

Dash Swap (04 F-150 Supercrew) in a 78; "...The original dash in the bronco has a classic look, but if you’ve ever owned a late 70’s Ford truck you know the plastic molding is a pain to work with. It’s made from a brittle plastic that’s easy to crack just by tightening a screw too much, and it’s impossible to find one that hasn’t been scarred up or broken. Unmodified the '04 dash would sit almost three inches closer to the seats in the bronco than it does in the ’04 truck which would just contact my knees. Also the curvature of the dash is sharper than in the bronco. I may have to cut the front of the '04 dash just to make it fit in the bronco. Some benefits of the new dash will be the factory cd player and the ventilation system. Ford deserves some credit for this one because they finally put a fan in the dash that blows more air than you’ll ever want, which is just right..."
