16"; " changed mine to 17" Lightning wheels and went with 265/70-17 Yokohama A/T's . No clearance problems at all and it seems to work well of road as well as smooth highway driving by lariat06; I have 285x75x16 on 16x8's with no problems at all. 3.75 backspacing did the trick for me. by hopp150; 265/75-16's fit without an issue my 90 had them when I bought it. by huggyb1972"

However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. Equipment description: Ford is replacing all Firestone Wilderness at 15, 16, and 17 inch tires mounted on ford trucks and suvs. Ford reports tread separation can occur due to a combination of the sensitivity of the tire design to stress, aging, and manufacturing differences between plants. Ford is replacing these tires to prevent possible premature tire failure. Vehicle description: the vehicles listed below may have been originally equipped with Firestone Wilderness at tires or may have had Wilderness at tires installed during the Firestone recall launched in August 2000. Certain 1991 throught 2002 Ford Explorer; certain 2001 throught 2002 Explorer Sport, and Sport Trac; certain 1997 through 2002 Mercury Mountaineer; certain 1991 through 2001 Ranger; certain 1999 through 2001 Expedition; certain 1991 through 1994, and 1997 model year F-series; certain 1991 through 1994 Bronco; note: both original equipment and replacement tires are affected. Ride Height in an 89; "...Ride height from the factory ranged from 3", 3.5", 4", and 4.5". This depended which wheel and tire package came on the vehicle as they offered several different combinations. But we all have dealt with the reality that even a set of high quality new major brand tires can affect vehicle..." Tire Circumference Differences; "...The ability of four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles to divide the engine's horsepower between its four tires is especially useful on loose or slippery surfaces such as sand and dirt, as well as on wet, icy or snow-covered roads. However it's important to remember that in order to transfer this extra power, the four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicle's driveline mechanically connects the tires so they work in unison. Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with additional differentials and/or viscous couplings that are designed to allow momentary differences in wheel speeds when the vehicle turns a corner or temporarily spins a tire. However, if the differentials or viscous couplings are forced to operate /100%.jpg of the time because of mismatched tires, they will experience excessive heat and unwarranted wear until they fail. This necessitates that four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles use tires that are very closely matched. This is because different diameter tires roll a different number of times each mile as a result of the variations in their circumferences. Tire diameter variations can be caused by accidentally using different sized tires, tires with different tread designs, tires made by different manufacturers, different inflation pressures or even tires worn to different tread depths. As an example of different tire diameters resulting from tires worn to different tread depths, we'll compare two 225/45R17-sized tires, a new tire with its original tread depth of 10/32-inch and a second tire worn to 8/32-inch of remaining tread depth. The new 225/45R17-sized tire has a calculated diameter of 24.97", a circumference of 78.44" and will roll 835 times each mile. The same tire worn to 8/32-inch of remaining tread depth is calculated to be 1/8" shorter with a diameter of 24.84", have a circumference of 78.04" and will roll 839 times per mile. While the difference of 1/8" in overall diameter doesn't seem excessive, the resulting 4 revolutions per mile difference can place a continuous strain on the tires and vehicle's driveline. Obviously, the greater the difference in the tires' circumferences, the greater the resulting strain. This makes maintaining the vehicle manufacturer's recommended tire inflation pressures and using "matched" tires on all wheel positions necessary procedures to reduce strain on the vehicle's driveline. Using "matched" tires means all four tires are the same brand, design and tread depth. Mixing tire brands, tread designs and tread depths may cause components in the vehicle's driveline to fail. Mismatched tires or using improper inflation pressures for all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles can also result in immediate drivability problems. Some Control Trac equipped vehicles in 4Auto mode may exhibit a shutter on acceleration and/or a noise from the front driveline and transfer case while driving. Some all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles may exhibit axle windup or binding while driving. Tire Valve Recall Information; "...This notice is being provided in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.Dill Air Controls has decided that a defect related to vehicle safety exists in certain Dill ACP-brand rubber snap-in valves (models TR-413, TR-413-chrome, TR-414, and TR-418) manufactured in July 2006 and sold between November 2006 and July 2007. If you purchased tires between November 2006 and July 2007, and if the valve stems in your wheel contain the unique Dill cap (shown below), you should have the valve stems inspected for cracks in the rubber. The rubber snap-in valves may develop cracks and leak air due to a lack of resistance to ozone deterioration. Tires that fail to maintain proper pressure can become damaged, and driving on damaged tires can result in a loss of vehicle control. This could cause a crash without warning. Consumers can check their own valves for cracking by flexing the valve (click here for inspection procedure) outwards toward the tire and inspecting the area where the valve meets the tire rim, or they can simply return to the retailer from which they purchased their tires for professional inspection. Tires are rated to carry a specific maximum load at a specific maximum tire pressure. Passenger car type tires when installed on light trucks and multipurpose passenger vehicles are rated at 10% lower load carrying capacity due to the differences in vehicle usages. The vehicle must not be loaded to both the front and rear GAWR because the GVWR will be exceeded. The GAWR of the front and rear axles exceed the GVWR when added together to allow flexibility in fore and aft loading of cargo. With the tires inflated to the specified pressure the total weight of your vehicle must not exceed the GVWR and GAWR specified on the Safety Compliance Certification Label.
