351W w/C6 Installation Info & pic in a 79; "...I swapped C6 cases, put in a mild shift kit, & used a flexplate from a '92 302 parts bronco I had. I used quite a few parts from it. Fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel rails; used the stock frame mounted 351M/400 engine pedistals. I bought new rubber engine mounts for a 302 for a '79 2wd F-150. It dropped right in & looked like it belonged there. I used BBK shorty headers from the car..."

Bolt Patterns, Ford

Bolt Patterns, Ford; Ford V8s use three different block bolt patterns. These engine groups can be found on the bottom of Page 43. Most of the adapters and motor mounts we offer are for the Ford small block. Ford used two flywheels, 157 tooth & 164 tooth. These starters index and bolt on to the bellhousing. It is imperative that you match the flywheel, starter and bellhousing. If you mismatch any of these items, it will only cause you grief! The 351 Windsor is considered a small block but has a few differences. One difference is that the heads of the block are wider. This may cause exhaust clearance problems on some conversions. Another difference is the oil pan bolt pattern. Conversions, such as the Bronco II, require a special oil pan that may need to be purchased.

Critical Disc/Flywheel Match in 87-93 5.0 & 5.8 Bronco, F & E Series; "...When replacing the clutch, match the disc to the flywheel prior to installation. A mismatch can cause contact between the disc damper and the inside diameter of the flywheel. Although the clutch may function properly initially, release problems will result. A similar situation results when the disc is installed backwards. Prior to installation, ensure the disc damper fits into the flywheel opening with proper clearance..."

the technical term for the part that connects the engine and torque converter in an automatic transmission is a flexplate, a flywheel is only used with a manual transmission. The two parts are very different, the flexplate is nothing but a piece of stamped steel with a ring gear around it, while a flywheel is a heavy cast piece with a machined surface for the clutch.. and a ring gear for the starter.
