Air Bag Chime; "... The chime module as shown on the diagram was actually the module I already removed for the door/headlight courtesy ding. It appears the obnoxious warning alarm comes directly from the box where the airbag control module is, which I'd rather not mess with..."

Door Switch Differences; "...There's only a slight difference in these door switches. On the early style, the connector (black pointer) actually moves when the pin is pushed, exposing the switch terminals. On the late style, the switch is fully enclosed. The nut (gray) is 9/16 for both. The brass sleeve (yellow) is adjustable for door alignment..."

Key-in-Ignition Warning Overview in a 96 from Workshop Manual; "...The warning chime/buzzer sounds when the driver's door is open with the key in the ignition switch lock cylinder (11582), and continues to sound until the key is removed or the door is closed. When the key is in the ignition switch lock cylinder, the key-in-ignition switch is closed and ground is supplied to the warning chime/buzzer module through Circuit 158 (BK/PK). When the driver's door is open, the driver's door lamp switch (13713) is closed and power is supplied to the module through Circuit 159 (R/PK)..."

Module Location. "...the buzzer is directly to the right of the steering colum under the dashboard. it is a white box about 3 X 1 X 1/2 inches; if you have a higer trim package (XLT or higher, however my XL E150 has it) there is a "reminder package" it sounds the chime when the lights are left on, the vehicle is off and the door is opened. If you are having trouble with it not working or working intermittently then it's probably the tumbler. (the piece the key goes into)..." Note, site won't allow you to return to this page

When the headlamp switch is in PARK or HEAD, power is supplied through Circuit 14 (BR) to the module. Safety Belt Warning Overview in a 96 from Workshop Manual; "...When the key is turned to RUN or START, power is supplied through Circuit 640 (R/Y) to the warning chime/buzzer module, which then supplies power through Circuit 450 (DG/LG) to illuminate the fasten belts indicator for six seconds, whether or not the driver's safety belt is buckled.
